American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC) was founded in 1952 to be the national trade association for the structural glued laminated timber (glulam) industry. In 2013 West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau assumed the Structural Glued Laminated Timber Certification Program of the American Institute of Timber Construction.

At that time, the manufacturing members of AITC became members of WCLIB. In 2019 AITC became a part of the Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau (PLIB) when the West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau merged with PLIB to form a single, unified organization.

AITC continues to serve the glulam industry by developing and maintaining standards, providing technical information to manufacturers and glulam users, and providing advocacy and market support on behalf of the entire glulam industry.
